Cribbs's Tweets

Josh Cribbs is upset about his contract. As we've become accustomed to, he has taken to Twitter to vent his frustration. Here's his last three tweets.

What would an athlete do without Twitter? Would they have to actually man up and have a conversation with their agent and/or team? Gasp! Who could imagine that!!

Tweet time:

"It's now time for me to let go & Let God. I've said all I needed to now I give it to him who is above all, the real Boss in charge of salary"

"I'm sorry guys i don't want to seem greedy but fair is fair & there is no way around it, i'm the best at what I do but paid the lowest. Hmmm"

"Thanks to all browns fans who stuck with us all year even tho u didn't want to, & to all who gave me words of wisdom that encouraged me...Thanks everyone, I love playing for the browns & put my all in to it, but it doesn't look good 4me at this point on returning...I don't believe I made the to do list for the team in 2010.''

Thoughts?

Cribbs gained 2,510 all-purpose yards (5th most in NFL history) and scored 6 total touchdowns in 2009.

Arguably the best return man other than Cribbs is/was Chicago's Hester. He made $795,000 in 2009.

The only guy to gain more all-purpose yardage than Cribbs in 2009 was Buffalo's Jackson (2,516). He made $376,720 in 2009.

Cribbs' 2009 pay was $1,045,000.

So I think the offer of $1,400,000 was fair. I don't know what exactly Cribbs is looking for, but anything more than around $1.5 million is too much.

He's stuck. Because if he were to become a more valuable offensive player that warranted a more lucrative deal, his role with special teams would be limited because it would be too high a liability to have a marquee player returning kicks and punts.

So if he wants to continue being a return specialist with a limited role in the offense, then the $1.4 million offer is fair.

But as of 2009, his offensive contributions have been too insignificant to warrant a stud WR-type contract.

Coach,

Where did you get your Hester $ number? The way I figured it... his contract is at least 3 mill a year guaranteed (based on average over the 4 year duration)

http://www.sportscity.com/NFL-Salaries/

The 2009 Brownies paid out $119,946,192.

Braylon Edwards, Jamal Lewis, Kellen Winslow, Derek Anderson, Joe Jurevicius, LeCharles Bentley and Donte Stallworth were paid a combined $29,244,167.

That's slightly less than 25 percent of the payroll.

Numbers change a little bit here and there because I believe they reflect Week 1 rosters.

Oh, and the number reflects base salary. Hester's contract is loaded with bonuses. I believe he made at least a few mil in bonuses/incentives for number of receptions, receiving yards, percentage of offensive plays, etc.

Also, there are a few different sites for NFL player salaries, all of which reflect slightly different numbers. Sportscity and USAToday have the most accurate, I believe. BELIEVELAND!
